Certification Policies
This page provides important information about CertNexus certification policies, including the safeguards we maintain to support independence, impartiality, fairness, and objectivity throughout our certification activities.
Independence of Training and Certification
Training and certification are separate activities.
Candidates are not required to complete CertNexus training or training from a CertNexus Authorized Training Partner before taking a CertNexus certification examination, unless a specific certification program explicitly establishes an education or training prerequisite.
Candidates may prepare through CertNexus-authorized training, other education or training, self-study, prior education, or professional experience.
Purchasing or completing CertNexus training does not guarantee a passing examination result, certification, preferential treatment, or any other advantage in the certification process. Certification decisions are made independently of a candidate's choice of training provider or method of preparation.
Safeguarding Impartiality, Fairness, and Objectivity
CertNexus is committed to safeguarding impartiality, fairness, and objectivity throughout its certification activities.
CertNexus maintains documented controls for managing impartiality, requires personnel involved in certification activities to understand and comply with impartiality requirements, and, on an ongoing basis, identifies, reviews, and addresses threats to impartiality, including actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest.
Because CertNexus is a division owned by Logical Operations, Inc., CertNexus maintains organizational safeguards to preserve its impartiality and operational independence from Logical Operations with respect to all matters, decisions, systems, and processes relating to the granting, managing, or revoking of certification, with the following limited exceptions:
- The CEO signing contracts, with such activity only representing executive authorization and not the selection of vendors, negotiation of certification-related terms, directing vendors, determining certification policy, or otherwise influencing certification activities;
- Providing funding to CertNexus, provided that such funding will not be used to influence, or in any way participate in, certification activities or decisions, nor will such funding be conditioned upon certification outcomes, pass rates, certification volume, treatment of particular candidates, vendors, or commercial customers;
- Providing back-office support to CertNexus, provided that such support will not be used to influence, or in any way participate in, certification activities or decisions.
All operational responsibilities for CertNexus exams and exam development, management of vendor relationships, management of contracts, certification-related sales and marketing decisions, and decisions on certification, including granting and revoking certification, will continue to reside within CertNexus with the EVP of Certification ultimately having authority for all certification-related matters.
Specifically, Logical Operations, Inc. and the CEO of Logical Operations will not:
- Have access to CertNexus candidate records, examination content, examination results, certification decision records, or other restricted certification systems or information, except where specifically authorized under documented CertNexus controls and consistent with ISO/IEC 17024 requirements;
- Exert commercial, financial, ownership, management, or other influence over examination development, examination administration, certification decisions, or other activities, including training, that could compromise the independence and impartiality of CertNexus;
- Have authority to overturn, direct, veto, modify, or influence an individual certification decision.
This Impartiality Statement shall remain in force as long as CertNexus or any successor, which also must be bound by this Statement, is in operation and any credentials granted by CertNexus or any successor remain in force.
